Recognizing Industrial Beauty

Professionals in our industry spend their careers protecting industrial structures from corrosion, and JPCL: Journal of Protective Coatings & Linings strives to deliver information about the methods and materials that will improve efficiency, safety, cost and service life related to this work.

Rarely, however, are these structures viewed in an aesthetic light.

The upcoming JPCL annual bonus issue will do just that, and you’re invited to share your favorites.

Showcasing Aesthetics

The Industrial Beauty issue, coming in August, will showcase photos of bridges, chemical plants, storage tanks, ships, pipelines and other industrial structures purely for their beauty.

JPCL's August bonus issue, Industrial Beauty, will showcase the beauty of industrial structures through a collection of photos submitted by readers.

To be eligible, suggestions will uphold the theme of beautiful structures maintained with protective and marine coatings; they should not depict a painting project in and of itself and need not be one you have worked on.

Moreover, photos are not expected to be professionally shot; feel free to share cool photos you snapped from the side of the road of a structure you admire or one you have noticed for the first time.

For the purpose of this issue, acceptable structures are considered those in aerospace; agriculture; bridges, roads, highways, and infrastructure; chemical plants; food processing plants; manufacturing plants; marine and ships; mines; offshore; oil and gas; petrochemical plants; pharmaceutical plants; pipelines; power plants—conventional and nuclear; pulp and paper mills; rail and railcars; sewer systems; shipyards; tanks—water, chemical, etc.; terminals; transmission towers; tunnels; waste processing plants; wastewater plants; water works; waterfronts, locks and dams; and wind farms.

Submission Guidelines

Photo submissions must meet the following criteria:

  • Subject matter must contain whole or part of an industrial structure;
  • Photos must be high-resolution/print quality (9 inches by 11 inches, 300dpi);
  • Photos submitted must include evidence of ownership/permission to publish; and
  • Submissions should include any available information about the name and/or location of the structure. Additional info is welcome.

While all submissions meeting these criteria will be considered, not all will necessarily be published.

Submissions will be accepted through July 8.
