Florida Paints (Orlando) says it makes "Florida-tough" paint designed for the region's hot sun, high humidity and wind-driven rain. It acquired a competitor, Scott Paint.

Founded in 1965 in Sarasota, the Scott Paint Company makes interior and exterior coatings and finishes for commercial and residential markets. The company was acquired in 1998 by Ramer Equities Inc., of Baltimore.

Florida Paint’s acquisition brings the Sarasota-based brand back to Florida ownership.

The deal adds an 85,000 square-foot manufacturing facility in Sarasota and 17 stores in Florida’s Gulf Coast region, complementing Florida Paints’ existing network of 12 stores throughout north and central Florida and its manufacturing facility in Orlando.

‘A Perfect Fit’

“Scott Paint is a perfect fit for Florida Paints,” said Don Strube, Jr., co-founder of Florida Paints. “The company ... shares our passion for Florida-tough paint designed specifically for our region’s hot sun, high humidity, and wind-driven rain.”

Florida Paints plans to continue to produce and market Scott Paint as a brand under the company’s umbrella.

About Florida Paints

Since 1960, the Strube family has been manufacturing paint designed for Florida’s high heat, humidity and wind-driven rain. The family founded Color Wheel Paints & Coatings and sold the business in 2006. Florida Paints marks the family’s next generation, with new and improved paint formulations.
