Teams from Valu Industrial ER Services, of Baytown, TX, took both first and second place at this year’s Annual Painters Competition, held April 16 by the Coating Society of the Houston Area.

The Painters Competition, held each April, pits teams of professional painters against one another. The teams complete application tasks and are judged by a group of three NACE Coating Inspectors, according to the CSHA.

Teams’ work is judged based on consistency, quality of work and safety, and teams are given an hour to finish all the given tasks.

Speed and Quality Count

Teams’ work is judged based on quality of work and safety, and teams are given an hour to finish all the given tasks.

According to the CSHA, the competition itself is comparable to a job site. Judges assign scores on factors like dry film thickness, consistency of application and the avoidance of coating defects (runs, sags, pinholes), in addition to adherence to safety standards.

This year, Valu Industrial was the “home team,” hosting the competition at its facility in Baytown. Two different Valu teams competed, taking first and second place. A team from Mobley Safway Industrial Services took third place.
