A Pennsylvania-based global manufacturer of safety products has announced the opening of its new high-tech safety training center.

“The jungle gym you remember from childhood just grew up,” MSA – The Safety Company said of its new facility in a press announcement Friday (April 8).

The three-story indoor training complex represents nearly a million dollar investment for the company, it added, enabling it to offer a wide array of training courses covering nearly every industry the company serves.

"Industrial painting contractors face many more decisions than choosing the right color or applicator," Becky Trimpey, MSA's global training manager, told PaintSquare News. "Respirators, fall protection, even hard hats are the new reality and proper training can help with correct selection as well as approved use for optimum safety on the job."

True-to-Life Safety Scenarios

The training center is filled with an intricate rig of ladders, platforms, manholes and escape windows, according to MSA, enabling it to simulate a variety of true-to-life worker safety scenarios.

Global safety equipment manufacturer MSA has unveiled a new state-of-the-art safety-training center at the Regional Learning Alliance (RLA) in Cranberry Township, PA.

The facility was developed to train industrial workers, construction contractors, utility workers and firefighters on how to properly select, inspect and use personal protective equipment (PPE) in a hands-on, application-based atmosphere.

Confined spaces training gets special emphasis, according to the company, utilizing custom enclosures for workers to practice climbing and crawling, as well as provisions for pre-entry atmospheric testing/monitoring and related respiratory protection devices.

Instruction on the repair and maintenance of gas detection instruments and other PPE is also available to instill the confidence in trainees to run their own maintenance programs back at their own facilities.

Hands-On and Classroom Settings

The training facility is located at the Regional Learning Alliance (RLA), a modern technology-based conference and training center in Cranberry Township, PA. This puts it “just steps away” from the company’s corporate headquarters, MSA said.

In addition to the hands-on safety training areas, the center also includes a modular classroom setting consistent with the continuing education mission of the RLA.

Established in 1914, MSA is considered the global leader in the development, manufacture and supply of safety products that protect people and facility infrastructures.

With 2014 revenues of $1.1 billion, MSA employs approximately 5,000 people worldwide. Headquartered north of Pittsburgh, the company has more than 40 international locations with manufacturing operations in the U.S., Europe, Asia, and Latin America.
