Durability + Design, the leading publisher in architectural coatings technology, will present a free three-webinar series on specifying coatings and other treatments for concrete floors in March, April and May of this year.

Each of the three webinars will focus on specifying coatings that meet performance requirements in specific building types with typical exposure conditions.

Concrete stains and other treatments will be discussed during the educational webinars.

Participants can earn AIA-sanctioned Learning Units for attending.

Three Webinars Planned

The series begins on March 23 with “Specifying Concrete Floor Coatings and Treatments for Schools and Hospitals,” and is followed on April 28 with “Specifying Concrete Floor Coating and Treatments for High Volume Retail Stores.”

The final webinar in the series, to be presented on May 19, is “Specifying Concrete Floor Coatings and Treatments for Aggressive Environments.”

Various materials will be discussed during these webinars in terms of where they are best used and their benefits and performance limitations, including concrete staining and dyeing, polished concrete, thin-film coatings, high-build resinous flooring, and thin-set terrazzo.

Tom Murphy

Industry expert Tom Murphy will present the three-webinar series on concrete floor coatings and treatments.

Due to the influence of the concrete substrate on the floor finish, testing of the substrate and specifying appropriate surface preparation standards and guidelines will be considered. System installation procedures and details will also be discussed.

Coatings Veteran to Present

The webinars will be presented by Tom Murphy, a floor-coating industry veteran with more than 20 years of experience. He works with the Society of Protective Coatings (SSPC) to provide third-party training and certification for installation of seamless floor coatings. He also chairs and participates on several committees associated with the building guides and standards for concrete coatings, concrete repair, and surface preparation.

As an independent consultant to the concrete coating industry, Murphy assists material manufacturers in developing customer-oriented strategies. He also works to help specifiers and owners understand the merits of protecting concrete, and he helps contractors to provide superior installations.

Other Durability + Design webinars offered in the 2016 series include presentations on high performance pigments, generic resin types for high performance applications, specifying issues, and innovative technologies.
