Inspection equipment manufacturer Elcometer has released a portable, hand-held gauge designed to aid in the measurement of soluble salts levels.
The Elcometer 130 SSP Soluble Salt Profiler is a portable, hand-held gauge which is intended to offer increased accuracy, speed and ease of use, when compared to equivalent test methods, for measuring the level and density of soluble salts, according to the company.

In just over two minutes, the company says, the device can accurately and reliably complete a Bresle equivalent test, adding that this is four times faster than the Bresle method.
Beyond measuring soluble salt levels (cleanliness) or conductivity, the gauge can be used to carry out a detailed analysis of the test area, Elcometer says, providing an accurate salt density profile map to pinpoint areas of high contamination outside user-defined limits.
It also automatically compensates for temperature to ensure accuracy in all climatic conditions, the company says, adding that impure water can be offset for accurate and repeatable readings as well.
Able to store up to 3,500 sets of readings in 1,000 alphanumeric batches, the device, according to Elcometer, can also wirelessly transmit readings, statistics and batches via Bluetooth or via USB into an inspection application or the company’s mobile app. This allows reports to be generated instantly in the office or in the field, it adds.
The device is said to be water-resistant, and its non-oxidising gold-plated contacts were designed to ensure lifetime performance.
