Castle Moves to Sherwin-Williams

Industry veteran Derrick Castle is taking his 20 years of experience to lead project development for the bridge and highway market with Sherwin-Williams Protective & Marine Coatings.

Sherwin-Williams announced Monday (Aug. 24) that Castle has been brought on board to assist in directing the development and delivery of coatings solutions designed to maximize the service life of concrete and steel structures.

His focus will be the bridge and highway market in the U.S. Southwest and Midwest.

“Derrick’s extensive knowledge of testing, evaluating and applying coating systems, as well as his deep industry network makes him a valuable leader for Sherwin-Williams,” said Dee McNeill, director, Bridge and Highway for Sherwin-Williams Protective and Marine Coatings.

“Derrick is a great addition to our team who will help to enhance our commitment to service excellence for the bridge and highway market,” he added.

Active SSPC Member

Castle served on the board for SPPC and as chairman of the society's Standards Review Committee.

He was also honored with the SSPC’s 2013 John D. Keane Award of Merit, which recognizes outstanding leadership and significant contribution to the development of the protective coatings industry and to SSPC.

"My years of membership, service and participation in SSPC have enabled me to forge many relationships with the industry’s best contractors, consultants and coatings professionals," Castle said in an email. "These relationships have paid great dividends in building my professional network and establishing solid lines of communication within the industry.

"The ability to rely on my professional network will be priceless moving forward in my new career with Sherwin-Williams," he added.

20-Year Industry Veteran

Castle comes to Sherwin-Williams from Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, where he was a chemical and corrosion laboratory specialist. While there, he was responsible for daily operations of the chemical section of the agency’s Division of Materials.

Castle received SSPC’s 2013 John D. Keane Award of Merit, which recognizes outstanding leadership and significant contribution to the development of the protective coatings industry and to SSPC.

He was in charge of specifications development and oversight of chemical and physical analyses for materials used in the construction and maintenance of Kentucky’s highway infrastructure.

He also served as a chemist and chemist supervisor during his 20-year tenure with the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

In addition to being an active SSPC member, Castle belongs to the American Association of State Highway Transportation Officials Subcommittee on Materials (AASHTO/SOM); the AASHTO National Transportation Product Evaluation Program (AASHTO/NTPEP); and the American Society of Testing and Materials (ASTM).

He has served as chairman of the AASHTO/NTPEP protective coatings technical committee and also served two terms on the AASHTO/NTPEP executive committee.

He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry from Morehead State University in Morehead, KY
