A quality-control company has introduced a handheld ultrasonic thickness measuring device that the company says is useful on primarily steel structures.

Paul N. Gardner Company, Incorporated (GARDCO) says the TKG Series Thickness Gauges are designed to be compact and rugged for use in the field. The ultrasonic technology allows for non-destructive thickness measurements, it says.

The gauges can be used for such applications as measuring boiler tubes, pressure vessels, storage tanks, ship hulls, bond inspection, bridge pins, containers, home oil tanks, pipes, steam lines, compressors and shafts, the company says.

The TKG Series Thickness Gauges are designed to be compact and rugged for use in the field on primarily steel structures.

GARDCO says all the models come with a wide measurement range (5 MHz or optional 10 MHz probes, for 0.04 inches to 20 inch thickness); multiple transcender options for high-temperature and difficult-to-measure materials; fast minimum feature to capture minimum thickness; an on-screen display available in eight languages; and a splash-proof (IP54), high-impact and compact housing.

Various models include other features, including the ability to make datalogs that can be exported to spreadsheets and echo-to-echo options to ignore coatings.

Prices range from $1,495 to $3,295, the company says.
