Bidding Opens for 1MG Tank Rehab

The Hanson Water Department is seeking contractors for the rehabilitation and repainting of the 1-million-gallon High Street Water Tank located in Hanson, MA.

First constructed in 1989, the 74-foot-diameter by 40-foot-high welded steel tank rests on a 90-foot-tall pedestal. Work on this elevated hydrosphere is estimated to cost $1.5 million.

Bids are due Aug. 6.

Scope of Work

The contractor will oversee complete removal and disposal of the existing interior and exterior coating system, a complete recoating of the tank, and replacement of the steel entry door.

Exterior and interior dry surfaces will be abrasive blast-cleaned to a Commercial finish (SSPC-SP 6) before being coated with a zinc-rich aromatic urethane prime coat, polyamide epoxy stripe and second primer coats, an acrylic polyurethane first finish coat, and an advanced thermoset fluoropolymer second finish coat. The exterior may be airless sprayed or roller applied.

Bids are due Aug. 6 for the 1-million-gallon water tank in Hanson, MA; work is estimated to cost $1.5 million and slated to begin in early 2016.

Wet interior surfaces will be abrasive blast-cleaned to a Near-White finish (SSPC-SP 10) before application of a zinc-rich aromatic urethane primer, a polyamidoamine epoxy stripe coat, and a polyamine epoxy finish coat.

SSPC Guide 6 Class 1A containment will be required during blasting and painting operations; existing coatings do contain lead.

Work is expected to begin in the spring of 2016.
