DALLAS--Lest we forget the true engineering marvel of bridges, dams and other mega-projects, TravelByDrone.com Texas is here with some artful reminders.

Take its newest Vimeo video of the Margaret McDermott Bridge (MMB), a steel suspended arch bridge under construction over the Trinity River in Dallas, TX.

Texas DOT is overseeing the $818 million Margaret McDermott Bridge construction in Dallas.

The 2:20 video isn't one of those time-lapse compilations or a webcam of work underway; it's a valentine to big projects.

'River'

The footage was shot by drone, produced by TravelByDrone, and is accompanied by Leon Bridges' soulful song "River." (TravelByDrone is from Dallas, and Bridges is from Fort Worth.)

Backdropped by sunsets and Bridges' lyrics ("Been traveling these wide roads for so long / My heart’s been far from you / Ten-thousand miles gone"), the viewer soaks in the raw scale and beauty of the project from a variety of angles.

The bridge project, managed by the Texas Department of Transportation, was designed by Santiago Calatrava. The world-renowed, controversial Spanish-Swiss architect is also a structural engineer. American Bridge is the general contractor.

The Margaret McDermott Bridge is designed by the world-renowned architect Santiago Calatrava, who is also a structural engineer. Calatrava projects have drawn criticism for their pricetags.

Part of the $818 million Dallas Horseshoe Project, the new McDermott Bridge will replace the current bridge, now more than 50 years old.

...And More

Two weeks ago, TravelByDrone.com Texas gave similar Hollywood treatment to a look at the Lavon Lake Dam, also on the Trinity River. Another video, Rain in the Trinity River, a fly-around of several bridges, resonates with a similar vibe.

The McDermott Bridge is named for the widow of the founder of Texas Instruments. Now 103 years old, McDermott recently visited her namesake bridge to sign a piece of steel that will become part of its signature arches.
