PITTSBURGH--A veteran mechanical and offshore engineer has been tapped to lead PPG's hydrocarbon passive fire protection business worldwide, the company has announced.

PPG Protective & Marine Coatings announced the appointment of Richard Holliday as Global Director - HC-PFP, effective June 1. Holliday succeeds Paul Greigger, who retired after 36 years.

Holliday has been in the oil, gas and petrochemical fire-protection industry "for a significant portion of his 30-year career" and will be responsible for growing PPG's company's global HC-PFP business, the company said.

PPG Protective & Marine Coatings has appointed Richard Holliday as global director of its hydrocarbon passive fire protection business.

He joins PPG after seven years with MMI Engineering, a technical safety consultancy specializing in major accident hazards.

'The Challenges of Production'

PPG called Holliday "well known in the industry and respected by asset owners, engineering firms, fabricators and applicators."

Sean Purdy, Global Platform Director of PPG Protective Coatings, said the industry was currently confronting "the challenges of production in deep water and Arctic environments as well as increasing investment in liquefied natural gas assets that require cryogenic spill and fire protection from a single system."

PPG’s protective coatings portfolio features tank linings, zinc-rich primers, general-purpose epoxy primers, splash zone and subsea coatings and durable finishes, augmenting its hydrocarbon PFP/cryogenic spill protection offering.

That business is "strategically important" to PPG—and Holliday is the person to grow it, Purdy added.
