UNITED KINGDOM—Think backyard sheds are just a storage spot for gardening tools and lawn mowers? Think again.

These tiny quarters can be transformed into seaside escapes, arts-and-crafts workshops, or even diners.

Welcome to the “She Sheds”—the woman’s equivalent to the Man Cave.

Anne Bate transformed her garden shed in St. Helens, Merseyside, England, into a '50s diner as a tribute to her late parents.

The design trend is apparently taking hold in the UK, where the Daily Mail recently highlighted six She Sheds.

The color palettes are female-oriented; details are decidedly girly; and most of the spaces are used to relax, enjoy the silence, sip mimosas, meditate, reminisce and pursue hobbies, according to reports.

Avoiding Spouse?

Not everyone is pleased about the rise of these gender-specific habitats.

No longer just a shed, it is now a retreat spot to sip tea in silence. See more She Sheds on Pinterest.

"'Man caves,' probably the least endearing interior design trend of the last half century, have apparently given rise to a thing called ‘she sheds,’ which, like their male counterparts, seem specifically designed for people who dislike their spouse's interests to the extent that being in the same room is actively uncomfortable,” according to Curbed.com.

“They are, in a word, depressing.”

Others, however, have another term for the trend: “marriage-savers.”
