Like other high-stakes industries, concrete construction invites a fair share of litigation—liabilities and outcomes explored in a new book available through the American Concrete Institute.

ACI calls Legal Issues in Concrete Construction, Second Edition, by Jeffrey W. Coleman, P.E., FACI, Attorney at Law, an "invaluable resource" for industry designers, suppliers and contractors.

Jeffrey W. Coleman is a licensed structural engineer with more than 30 years of experience as a practicing attorney. ACI calls his new book an "invaluable resource for concrete professionals."

A licensed structural engineer with more than 30 years of experience as a practicing attorney, Coleman has collected dozens and dozens of legal cases specific to concrete construction and presents them in a useable format.

The first edition of the book was published in 2004.

New Features

The new edition contains over 150 cases, more than three times the number of cases in the first edition. It is organized around key construction and legal topics, including defective concrete, cracking, load tickets and responsibility for concrete performance.

The 260-page publication features 23 chapters, including a basic primer on concrete.

ACI's Guide for Responsibility in Concrete Construction has also been included as an appendix. The guide identifies and suggests allocation of responsibilities to various parties involved in concrete construction in the United States.
