Belzona has introduced a paste-grade epoxy composite engineered for in situ repairs of wet, oil-contaminated and underwater surfaces.

Part of the Belzona 1000 Series polymers, Belzona 1212 is a multi-purpose solvent-free material designed to cure rapidly, even at low temperatures, and adhere to manually prepared substrates where grit blasting is not possible.

Belzona 1212 can be used for underwater and other in situ repairs where grit blasting is not possible.

Belzona calls the two-part 1:1 material "easy to mix and apply" without tools. The company recommends 1212 for repair kits and emergency situations.

Features and Characteristics

Surface-tolerant Belzona 1212 bonds to metal substrates, including mild steel, stainless steel, aluminium, copper, brass, and lead.

The product is designed to provide corrosion and chemical resistance and can be machined using conventional tools, according to the manufacturer.

The epoxy composite cures at low temperatures and is recommended for metal substrates.

Suggested applications include:

  • Plate bonding, corrosion pit filling and localized repair of wet, sweating or oil contaminated pipes without grit blasting;
  • In situ sealing of oil and fluid leaks on storage tanks, engines, gearboxes, transformers and sumps;
  • Long-term repair of offshore structures and marine equipment, including ship hulls, rudders, propellers and ballast tanks without taking the ship out of service;
  • Underwater repairs; and
  • Repairs in splash zones and coastal structures.

Founded in 1952, Belzona is a global designer and manufacturer of repair composite materials and industrial protective coatings. The company has headquarters in Europe, the U.S., Canada and Thailand.
