The Coating Society of the Houston Area has announced Tim Siemek, VP of Multiservices for Safway Group, will serve as its 2015 president. Siemek has been in the coatings industry for 28 years and a member of the society for 15 years.

Siemek joined Safway in 2012. Before Safway, he spent 13 years as the operations/specialty service manager for The Shaw Group, which provides engineering, construction and related services for a variety of industries.

2015 Officers

The society's other officers for 2015 are:

  • Vice President Joe King, MineralTech;
  • Secretary Anthony Grigsby, Carboline; and
  • Treasurer Dwayne Lum, Hempel.

The Coating Society's officers start as treasurer and advance to president their fourth year in office.

"I look forward to working side by side with other board members—all volunteers from various companies who have dedicated their time to our cause—as we strive to accomplish the Society's goals," Siemek said.

Presidential Duties

As president, Siemek says he will advocate for more scholarship support for young people pursuing corrosion-related studies.

"There is a growing need for corrosion prevention," Siemek said. "By providing instruction and sharing our knowledge base on safe, best practices, we will ensure that future industry pioneers will have an in-depth understanding of the mitigation of this industry-wide problem."

In the past five years, the Houston Coatings Society has awarded more than 50 academic scholarships, totaling over $60,000. It has also started to partner with NACE, which awarded an additional $10,000 in 2014 for industry-specific scholarships.

"I hope to be able to continue the legacy left by all the board members over the last 50-plus years and with the support of every member, I know that we can make 2015 the best year yet!"

About the Society

Established in 1956, the Coating Society of the Houston Area serves owners, suppliers and contractors as a forum for sharing best practices for corrosion control through the use of protective coatings.

The society hosts a variety of networking events throughout the year, including an annual trade show (April 17 this year) and painters' competition (April 11 this year).
