Cortec Corp., a global supplier of corrosion control technologies, has introduced a certified biobased, biodegradable, ready-to-use temporary coating for multimetal protection.

EcoLine 3680 can be brush- or spray-applied to protect carbon, galvanized and stainless steels, copper, brass, bronze, aluminum and cast iron indoors or outdoors, the St. Paul, MN-based company says.

EcoLine 3680 may be used in agricultural applications and environmentally sensitive locations like public beaches, according to Cortec.

Typical applications include:

  • Pipe coating;
  • Parts storage;
  • Wire rope;
  • Steel plate; and
  • Machined parts.

EcoLine 3680 is formulated with USDA renewable raw materials, allowing for corrosion protection of equipment where incidental contact with food is possible. The product is HX-1 approval pending.

After application, EcoLine 3680 leaves a dry-to-touch, self-healing, moisture-displacing protective film that provides "superior protection even against aggressive environments," according to the manufacturer. The wax-like film can be removed with alkaline cleaners.

The product is suitable for corrosion protection of equipment where incidental contact with food is possible, the manufacturer says.

Cortec calls the coating safe, economical and easy to use.

EcoLine 3680 conforms to NACE Standard RP0487-2000 and has been tested by a certified laboratory in accordance with ASTM B-117 (Salt Spray Test) and ASTM D-1748 (Humidity Test) with "excellent results," says Cortec. The product is RoHS and REACH compliant.
