A “lavish, almost-but-not-quite royal” shade of blue has been named PPG’s 2015 Color of the Year.

Called “Blue Paisley,” the color is expected to be the go-to hue in home décor trends as homeowners embrace more vibrant hues in the coming months, the company’s color experts say.

PPG's pick for the "2015 Color of the Year" is Blue Paisley, a hue capable of transforming a home.

The color is described as one that can transform the home, signifying a “global eclecticism.”

A Clear Selection

“In observing the purchase behavior of homeowners, a single overarching idea became evident—we are now looking to set the tone for the year ahead using vibrant yet stylish colors that play off our unique experiences and tap into our desire for global eclecticism that mixes natural and manmade themes,” said Dee Schlotter, National Color Marketing Manager, PPG Pittsburgh Paints program.

“We are experiencing the popularity of the soft blue shade across all markets, such as home décor, automotive and electronics, making it a clear PPG Color of the Year selection.”

New Color Trends

Blue Paisley is one of the colors featured in “Possibility,” a collection of four new color palettes showcasing color trends for the company’s Voice of Color program. Each new palette features as many as 30 new hues.

Four new palettes are featured in the company's 2015 trend report. "I'm Pulse" features urban nuetrals and bright colors.

The four new palettes are:

  • Good Life: Possible Harmony: This palette brings together fresh floral colors, soft neutrals, and rich blues. Browns, pinks, blues and yellows make up this full-color palette.
  • I’m Pulse: Creative Possibilities: Spirited neon-inspired colors paired with a twist on neutrals bring this color collection together. The hues include intense yellows, hot blues, burnt pinks and sultry greens.
  • Co-Leidescope: Worldly Possibilities: This trend includes a balanced mix of colored darks and faded mid-tones. This palette features Blue Paisley as well as deep jewel-toned purples and greens and spicy reds and golden yellows.
  • Introsense: Quality Possibilities: This palette features a range of calming and soulful shades, including soft blues, greens, pinks, purples, and coral hues paired with light neutrals.

The new shades, along with 2,000 additional colors in The Voice of Color program, are available in any of the PPG Pittsburgh Paints paint lines.

PPG said it employs more than 20 color stylists around the world, each specializing in different markets, who collaborate to determine styles and color trends for the home, electronics and automobiles.
