AkzoNobel's International brand has introduced a foul-release system for the North American power, water and wastewater segments.

Intersleek 381/425 is a long-life fouling control system designed for use in wet or underwater service applications, according to the company.

Intersleek 381/425 is a fouling-control system applied after a thick-film, corrosion-resistant primer. The system was designed for wet or underwater service applications.

Typical application areas include penstocks and trash screens, sewage clarifier tanks, fresh-water intakes, tunnels and fresh-water channels.

3-Coat System

When applied with standard spray equipment and used with suitable anticorrosive primers, the three-coat system offers a "highly effective, long-life fouling solution," according to the company.

After a thick-film corrosion-resistant primer, Intersleek 381 can be applied as a second coat. The modified silicone polymer attaches to a non-slick finish, the company says. Intersleek 425 is applied as a third coat. The advanced silicone polymer produces a low-tension, non-stick surface that makes it difficult for biofouling to attach effectively, even at low water currents, according to AkzoNobel.

"Unlike biocide-containing fouling control systems, Intersleek does not have to be replenished and is considered to have a lifetime equal to most undamaged, underwater structures," says Kari Nollsch, the company's North American Water and Wastewater Market Champion.

Intersleek 425 was the original 1st generation foul release system, from the 1980s; why not the latest and best 3rd generation Intersleek 1100SR?
