Further expanding its reach in North America, PPG Industries Inc. will become the exclusive paint manufacturer and sales representative for The Coatings Alliance LLC.

PPG’s North American architectural coatings business has taken a minority equity position in the Buffalo, NY-based cooperative of 43 paint dealers in the U.S. and Canada, PPG announced March 20.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Under the terms of the deal, PPG will produce the The Coatings Alliance-owned C2 Paint brand.

Under the agreement, PPG will produce the TCA-owned C2 Paint brand and act as an independent sales representative for C2 Paint to independent paint and decorating retailers throughout North America.

TCA was started in 1998 by a former paint chemist and comprises “a rare group of independent retailers, colorists and paint experts,” according to C2’s website.

Expanding Options and Reach

“TCA’s C2 Paint is an exclusive, dealer-owned brand that will provide our existing network of independent retailers with another premium product option,” said Scott Sinetar, PPG vice president, architectural coatings, North America.

“PPG’s position in TCA also continues to expand our distribution reach in North America and demonstrates our strategic interest and commitment to the independent dealer channel,” he said.

Added Tom Hill, CEO of TCA, “PPG’s partnership will also allow a greater investment in research and development, marketing, and distribution to ensure C2 Paint’s premier market position, as well as to further its commitment to eco-friendly, more sustainable products.”
