Cool-Crete Technology Group’s new signature product is designed to eliminate the harmful effects of hydration, extending service life and averting the need for unattractive expansion cuts.

Cool-Crete is made from Portland cement, sand and stone, but it modifies the typical hydration reaction, resulting in concrete that "behaves differently when mixed," delivering "what may be the first change in the fundamental chemistry of concrete since the development of Portland," the company says.

Cool-Crete

Cool-Crete has a pH of 11.5 and claims to eliminate the harmful effects of hydration.

The product alters the chemistry through which concrete cures, eliminating the first-phase heat of hydration.

Lower pH

According to the company, Cool-Crete has a pH of 11.5 and eliminates chemical burns.

The product is less porous than conventional concrete and thus less susceptible to the freeze-thaw cycle, according to the company. It also shrinks less while drying and is denser when fully cured. Additionally, Cool-Crete resists slab curl and cracking.

Mass pour simulation

Cool-Crete's technology was tested in simulated mass pours like this one.

Cool-Crete does not require saw cuts or caulking, can be poured in hot weather, and is ready for use at four days with a strength of over 6,700 psi at seven days, according to the company.

About the Company

Cool-Crete Technology Group, based in Cleveland, OH, is a venture of K&E Chemical Co. Inc., a developer of ecofriendly restoration products.
