Free Webinar Highlights Polyaspartics

An overview of the successful use of polyaspartic coating technology will be the topic of a free upcoming D+D Education Series Webinar.

"Polyaspartic Coatings for High-Profile Commercial and Architectural Applications" will be held from 11 a.m. to noon ET Dec. 18.

Topcoats based on Bayer MaterialScience's engineered polyisocyanates for polyaspartic coatings protect structural steel beams in the National Museum of the Marine Corps.

Polyaspartics are a relatively new class of coatings that have been used successfully in a number of commercial and architectural applications. In situations where return to service and labor savings are important, polyaspartic coatings offer significant advantages over other coating technologies, the organizers say.

The webinar will cover:

  • What a polyaspartic coating is;
  • How polyaspartic coatings are used in corrosion protection;
  • How polyaspartic coatings are used to protect concrete; and
  • The factors for successful application.

About the Presenter

Webinar presenter Michael Jeffries is the Field Technical Service Manager in the Coatings, Adhesives and Specialties Division of Bayer MaterialScience, where he started his career in 1989.

Throughout his career, he worked on the scale-up of various polyisocyanates, polyisocyanate prepolymers, polyaspartics and polyurethane dispersions into production. In 1998, he specifically began working on the development of new isocyanate resins for the coatings industry

Jeffries has been awarded eight patents, with an additional four applications pending. He holds a BS from the University of Pittsburgh.

Today (Dec. 11), D+D will host another free webinar, Architectural Specifications for Polished Concrete” from 11 a.m. to noon ET.

The webinar will update the Concrete Polishing Association of America's ongoing efforts to create industry standards for the selection and specification of polished concrete floors.

Presenter Brad Burns will also offer clarification on the means and methods used to produce polished concrete flooring. Burns is a founding member and the Executive Director for the CPAA.
