Free Webinar to Focus on Commissioning

Building commissioning and its application to coatings will be the topic of a free upcoming D+D Education Series Webinar.

Building Commissioning” will be held from 11 a.m. to noon ET Dec. 4.

If a coating system will be used as an air barrier on a building, it will be subjected to evaluation through building commissioning, the presenters say.

This webinar will discuss the aspects of commissioning applicable to coatings using SSPC and ASTM standards, including verification of the quality of cleaning and painting, dry film thickness, adhesion, continuity, and air tightness.  

The presentation will include:

  • The history of building enclosure commissioning;
  • Reference standards;
  • Stakeholders and roles; and
  • Understanding the commissioning process, including predesign, construction and performance test standards and methodology.

About the Presenters

Co-presenter Kenneth A. Trimber has 40 years of experience in coatings inspection, testing and analysis and is the president of KTA-Tator Inc.


The webinar will be co-presented by Kenneth Trimber, president of KTA-Tator.

Trimber is a past president of Society for Protective Coatings (SSPC), a member of the Standards Review Committee, and chairman of the SSPC Commercial Coatings Committee, SSPC Surface Preparation Committee, and the SSPC Containment Task Group.

Trimber is also a NACE Certified Coatings Inspector, an SSPC Protective Coatings Specialist, and is certified at a Level III nuclear coating inspection capability in accordance with ANSI N45.2.6.


Kevin Knight, the president of Retro-Specs Ltd. and founding principle of Edifice Tutorial, will also present the webinar.

Knight is a building-envelope expert with 30 years of experience in field inspection and testing, commissioning, research, and education and training.

He serves on the ASTM E06 committee on Performance of Buildings, is co-chair for the Standard Practice for Enclosure Commissioning, and chairs the Enclosure Commissioning Training and Certification program.

He is a member of SSPC and chairs the Commercial Air/Vapor Barriers Committee.
