Technology Publishing Co., publisher of Durability + Design, has named Gina R. Johnson as the magazine’s editor in chief. The former chief editor at Solar Today and USGlass magazines, Johnson brings to the position two decades of experience with a focus on architectural and construction trade publishing.

“Building on the success of our flagship journal, JPCL: Journal of Protective Coatings & Linings, Durability + Design delivers the most trusted news and practices in architectural coatings and related building materials,” said Peter Mitchel, president of Technology Publishing Co.

Gina R. Johnson is a longtime editor in the design and construction industries.

“Gina’s deep knowledge of the design and construction industries will ensure that D+D remains the industry’s most authoritative voice.”

'A Great Fit'

Johnson’s appointment, effective Aug. 13, puts her at the helm of the three-year-old publication, which serves 20,000 architects, specifiers, contractors and facilities owners with in-depth features, news and analysis on building performance and aesthetics. The magazine will increase frequency in 2014, publishing monthly.

Johnson’s years of publishing experience, and success with digital platforms and print-digital integration, will ensure continuation of the high-quality content that Durability + Design readers have come to expect, said Pam Simmons, vice president of content and marketing.

“Her background is a great fit as D+D continually strives to serve the needs of our industry’s professionals, whether through the print magazine, D+D News, or our new Durability + Design Conference and Exhibition,” said Simmons.

Building and Energy Background

For 10 years before joining Durability + Design, Johnson was editor in chief and publisher of Solar Today magazine, which serves architects, building and renewable-energy professionals. She was also the founding editor of Fortnightly’s Energy Customer Management.
