One commonly used specification for measurement of dry film thickness  with magnetic guages is SSPC-PA2. to illustrate this standard method, consider a square to 100 ft2 area in which five separate spot measurement of three readings each have been made. notice that a total of 15 individual readings have been made. assume:

1. this is the final inspection to deterrmine the total thickness of the coating system.

2. SSPC-PA2 is the specified procedure.

3. The specification call for a range of 250 micron to 375 micron.

4. Spot measurement for each area (average of the three readings).
