Surface Preparation of Concrete
Concrete is one of the most common and frequently the least understood building material. Application of a coating is one method to improve the properties of the surface, the durability, or the aesthetics of concrete. Concrete surface preparation is one of the most important factors in successful coating application. Concrete is not uniform in composition, properties, or its ability to accept coatings. The successful application of a coating, topping, or overlay to a concrete substrate requires an understanding of the properties, deterioration mechanisms, site inspection methods, and surface preparation techniques unique to concrete. This webinar will briefly review these topics as well as provide references from industry guidelines from ASTM, ICRI, NACE, SSPC, ACI, and other sources.
