Lemons and Lemonade

A family had twin boys whose only resemblance was their looks. If one was too hot, the other was too cold. If one said the TV was too loud, the other said too soft.

One was also an eternal optimist, the other, a hopeless pessimist.

Curious about this difference, on the twins’ birthday, their father loaded the pessimist’s room with every imaginable toy and game. The optimist’s room he loaded with horse manure.

Later that night, the father heard the pessimist crying in his new room amid all of his gifts.

“What’s wrong?” the father asked.

“Because my friends will be jealous,” the boy wailed. “Plus, I’ll have to read all these instruction books, I’ll constantly need batteries, and my toys will eventually get broken.”

Shaking his head, his father left the room to hear laughter from his brother’s bedroom. Inside, the boy was dancing happily in the manure.

“What are you so happy about?” he asked.

The boy replied, “There’s got to be a pony in here somewhere!”
