A Simple Formula

A doddering professor of logic asked his class a question.

“If Philadelphia is 100 miles from New York, and Chicago is 1,000 miles from Philadelphia, and the Moon is 239,000 miles from Earth, how old am I?”

A student in the back of the class raised his hand. “Professor, you’re 70,” he answered.

“You’re absolutely correct,” the professor said, “but how did you arrive at the answer so quickly?”

“Easy,” said the student. “I have a brother who’s 35, and he’s half as nuts as you are.”
