Coating Selection Spotlight: Sherwin-Williams

By The Sherwin-Williams Company

The following first appeared in the July 2017 JPCL advertorial, “Special Report: Coatings,” providing readers with useful product and service information from participating companies.

Faster Returns to Service with Slower-Set Floor Coating

Among our innovative solutions at Sherwin-Williams is a new floor coating that dries quickly for fast returns to service, while providing a longer working time and recoat window for increased application ease and flexibility. General Polymers 4850 Polyaspartic Floor Coating is a slower-set polyaspartic alternative that gives applicators greater flexibility for flooring applications in a variety of markets.

GP4850 has a working time of up to 20 minutes, providing an extended open time to help eliminate roller lap marks on any size project. This longer open time allows applicators to specify GP4850 for larger flooring projects without concern that the coating will set too quickly. Despite its slower-set characteristics, GP4850 still enables faster returns to service than typical urethane or epoxy flooring systems, handling foot traffic within six hours of application. GP4850 also has a broad recoat window of six to 36 hours, giving applicators greater scheduling flexibility and the ability to apply a second coat up to two days after starting an application.

The product offers improved flow and leveling characteristics to further minimize the potential for roller marks, enabling applicators to create a uniform, smooth finish. It offers good chemical resistance, mechanical strength, and low-temperature cure, along with excellent UV stability.

Recommended for use in a multitude of applications — including areas experiencing impacts and abrasions — GP4850 is also approved for use in USDA-inspected and Canadian food processing facilities.

Along with GP4850, Sherwin-Williams offers a complete line of polyaspartic coatings to cover any size flooring project.
