Job Description


Pettit® Paint a division of Modern Recreational Technologies™, is seeking an experienced, motivated Superyacht/Commercial Business Development Manager for its focus on Superyacht, Cruise and/or Light Duty Commercial Marine business. Already accomplished in the yachting space, Pettit is now looking to push their market penetration into these marine sectors and as such, looking to employ a sales professional to focus on this space.

The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent selling, negotiation skills and interpersonal skills. As an individual you will bring an existing book of contacts to the role, with an ability to nurture and develop relationships with a variety of stakeholders. The ideal individual will be motivated by continuous improvement with a focus on driving service and sales growth.

You'll be a self-starter with the ability to work with little supervision but also to share your network and connections with the internal sales team to strive for wider business success. You'll be confident working with clients by phone and in person and be prepared to travel when required. Candidates should have previous coatings experience in pleasure craft marine, superyacht, commercial marine, or similarly high value infrastructure coatings background. PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties will be assigned.
  1. Indirect and direct sale of products and services to marine distributors, contractors, boatyards, dry docks, and aftermarket repair business.
  2. Responsible for year over year sales growth and new business development.
  3. Develop a robust pipeline of new opportunities in distribution and end user applicators.
  4. Inspect and oversee end user applications of MRT products on Superyachts and Light Duty commercial vessels.
  5. Develop specifications and scope of work documents for vessel owners, applicators, and service facilities.
  6. Coordinate sales efforts and strategy with marine segment sales and technical team.
  7. Conduct bi-annual growth and strategy meetings with direct buy customers.
  8. Maintain positive business relationships for long-term industry partnerships.
  9. Attend and network at industry trade shows and events.
  10. Expedite resolution of customer problems and complaints to maximize customer satisfaction.
  11. Manage CRM, monthly reporting, sales and T&E budget and customer forecasting.
  12. Provide training end-users applicators.

Experience and Education Required

Minimum Requirements:
  • 3-5 years of previous sales and technical experience in marine or similar industry

Desired requirements:
  • 4 Year Degree Preferred
  • AMPP, NACE or SSPC Coatings Certification
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent selling and negotiation skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Excellent networking skills (multi-level selling)
  • Experience in working in cross functional teams.
  • Experience in this specific segment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and CRM system

The job may require extensive travel to customers in the USA which includes overnight travel due to location. Candidates should be comfortable with extended travel to customer site. Typical job requirements would include the ability to lift to 50 lbs. and perform hands on applications of technical coatings in environments that could require regular long hours on their feet, stretching, bending, or kneeling. Must be able to comply with respirator fit test and wear HSE equipment for long periods of time.


The work environment for this position varies widely based on the customer segment and business goals. Settings can range from office to dockside, to restricted dry dock areas, and business meetings. Candidates should be comfortable in a variety of business settings.
