Position Summary:

  • Review of fabricator’s quality systems and plans
  • Perform audits of processes and related records
  • Quality Assurance Inspection, Acceptance and Testing where applicable
  • Track precision and bias of acceptance testing results.
  • QA Inspector will ensure that the subcontractors are implementing quality control and quality assurance activities as per the approved Quality Management Plan, Procedures, and inspection and Plan
  • QA Inspector will make regular visits to off-site fabrication activities as per fabrication control Plan and verify the records including checklists, sampling and testing, calibration records of tools and equipment in use as applicable
  • QA Inspector will also ensure that traceability of records is maintained. He/she will review along the process and approve prior to releasing any item the corresponding Fabrication Quality Package.
  • Additional Skills: French and English spoken. Structural steel fabrication inspection experience. Familiar with welding techniques, specifications, NDE testing. Also related to our internal specific procedures:

Responsibilities/Scope of Work

  • Review MTRs for specification compliance and for accuracy, completeness, and specific project applicability.
  • Control, identify, and reproduce MTRs for steel materials used from the Fabricator’s stock or from warehouse purchases. Include the MTRs in the project file and provide them to the Engineer as requested
  • Verify use of proper materials by checking a copy of the MTRs when the material arrives and by monitoring heat numbers during fabrication until the material is joined into a piece-marked item
  • Periodically verify the following information on MTRs: Product description (specifications, grade, H or P testing frequency) chemistry physical test results, including Charpy V-Notch when applicable “Buy America” certification requirements heat number certification signature (Quality Control Department and Notary, when required)
  • Perform verification tests, measurements, inspection, or observations to ensure that fabricated items conform to the Contract requirements
  • Establish a pattern of regular and frequent observations during the progress of work to verify satisfactory workmanship without delaying production or missing critical operations

Qualifications/Skills

  • Familiarization with codes and standards such as AASHTO/AWS D1.5,AWS D1.1, AWS A2.4, Symbols for Welding and Nondestructive Testing, AWS A3.0, Standard Welding Terms and Definitions
  • AASHTO LRFD-8,AASHTO LRFDCONS-4,CSA S16 ,CSA W47.1 & CSA W59-18 is required.
  • Fundamental knowledge of different welding processes like SAW,FCAW ,SMAW and GMAW and associated Destructive and Nondestructive testing is preferred.
  • Fundamental Knowledge of Surface preparations and Coating requirements of SSPC and NACE is required.
  • Coordinate with Fabricator’s QC Manager and Engineer to ensure that the requirements of the contract are being implemented
  • Coordinate verifications with the QCI and accomplish them with minimal additional material handling by the Fabricator and with as little interference with the work in process as possible.
  • Preparing quality audit programs and scheduling, coordinating, and performing internal quality audits and scheduling and coordinating external quality audits of key processes
