We have an immediate need for a 1st shift (6:00am-6:00pm Monday-Thursday, 6:00am-2:30pm on Friday & 6:00am-noon on Saturday currently but can vary depending on work load) steel painter for steel fabrication facility. Hours listed are current shift hours and they can vary depending on workload. Pay ranges $15-$18/hour depending on experience and will be set in an interview. Qualified candidates must have a valid driver's license, transportation, clean criminal history and be able to pass pre-employment & random drug testing as well as a physical. Job Summary:

Mix paints, enamels, lacquers, or other coating materials to match standardized colors of product and to proper consistency and viscosity for spraying or brushing. Prepare surfaces and apply coatings to a variety of products/parts using standard methods. Touch-up marred surfaces as needed. Has the authority to Run and uses machine and steel expertise to prepare steel for structural use.

Essential Job Functions and Qualifications

1. Maintain good attendance and reliability.

2. Must wear a respirator at all times when painting.

3. Accurately read and understand shop drawings and shop orders with regard to surface preparation, painting requirements, and no paint areas.

4. Accurately read tape measure to 1/16”.

5. Be able to use a wet film gage.

6. Have working knowledge of liquid measurements (pint, ounce, quart, gallon, etc).

7. Be able to understand and convert percentages.

8. Be familiar with paint manufacturer’s specification sheets.

9. Have proper understanding of the verification of quantity, piece mark, job number, sequence number, and paint codes on the Left to Load sheets.

10. Make sure that each piece is clearly and accurately marked with piece mark, job number, and sequence number, whether painted or not.

11. Make sure that marks are in the correct location.

12. Be able to accurately mix and apply chemical paints using two (2) and three (3) part coatings. (Epoxy and Urethane).

13. Apply coatings to the required dry film thickness (DFT) on the shop drawing or shop order.

14. Make sure that paint is free of runs, and no overspray on other material.

15. Follow AISC Procedure 406 Control of Surface Preparation, Temperature, and Humidity During Coating.

16. Qualify to paint in accordance with AISC Procedure 413 Coatings Applicator and Qualification.

17. Must perform routine maintenance checks and maintenance (torch tips, etc.).

18. Have an “ear” for potential problems by being able to describe and diagnose the current paint sprayer issue.

19. Be aware and responsible of surrounding environment and safety orientated with this environment.

20. Operate pendant or remote-controlled bridge crane safely and efficiently.

21. Maintain good housekeeping, keeping area neat and orderly at all times.

22. Be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs over shoulder height frequently.

23. Be able to speak and understand enough English to accurately follow basic instructions.

24. Accurately and properly clock in and out on all different jobs and all shop orders worked on.

25. Work required hours to help meet production schedule and satisfy the needs of internal customers.

26. Proficiency is required with equipment and material handling (cranes, conveyor tables).

27. Machinist must have knowledge of operating material once on the conveyor table.

28. Distinguish between sizes (length and width) of the beam and shapes (channel, s-shaped, misc. channel, tubing).

29. Understanding of the verification of job number, sequence number, and release number.

30. Operation of the blaster and knowledge of each function of the blaster.

31. Responsible for routine maintenance checks (blaster shot refill, grease joints).

32. Having an “ear” for potential machine problems by being able to describe and diagnose the current machine issue.

33. Must be aware and responsible of surrounding environment and safety orientated with this environment.

34. Perform other duties as required by management.
