Position Description:

Provide senior level and SME technical guidance to the Kinder Morgan Products Pipeline (KMPP) Integrity Management Team for the development of processes, procedures, and analyses for advanced external and internal corrosion risk management. This role will serve as a subject matter expert for all issues related to internal or external corrosion management systems for KMPP pipelines and facilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide senior level technical guidance for the development of external and internal corrosion risk assessment systems.
  • Collaborate with Regional Corrosion Control Program Managers to plan specific corrosion threat mitigation efforts for efficient and timely threat management.
  • Serve as technical advisor for evaluation of new corrosion technology advancements.
  • Participate in the development of corrosion management program processes, protocols, procedures, and standards.
  • Develop Corrosion Control Program Technical Publications and related training programs.
  • Refine current processes, procedures, and systems for data collections necessary for comprehensive external and internal corrosion threat assessment of all KMPP pipelines and facilities.
  • In collaboration with Regional Corrosion Managers and the GIS Data Team, identify and manage vendors to refine corrosion program data systems, such as the American Innovations CPDM database and KMPP Internal Corrosion Data System. Data systems must be structured for integration with Integrity data analytics systems managed by the GIS Data Team.
  • In collaboration with Regional Corrosion Managers and Corrosion Systems Vendors, further develop automated corrosion data collection systems.
  • Develop systems for data collection for the evaluation, selection, and implementation of advanced statistical analytics to facilitate probability based threat and consequence analyses.
  • In collaboration with the Data Analytics Team develop a comprehensive set of data analytics to provide visualization of the effectiveness of the KMPP corrosion management initiatives.
  • Maintain records necessary for Integrity Management Program performance measurement and represent Integrity Management Team during state and federal regulatory integrity program audits.
  • Provide corrosion data analytics to KMPP Senior Leadership and Regional Corrosion Control Program Managers.
  • Provide Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to KMPP leadership to facilitate the development of advanced strategies for management of risks presented by pipeline operations.
  • Participates in the evaluation of Integrity Assessment Project reviews and provides technical guidance as necessary.
  • Participates in Preventive and Mitigative Review Meetings and provides technical guidance as necessary. Provides recommendations to senior Operations Leadership regarding corrosion management program efforts involving measures to be taken, as well as any system adjustments.
  • Participates in the development of cost/benefit analysis of preventive and mitigative measures and present results to senior leadership when required.
  • Participates in in-field assessments and NDE report review to provide technical advice with regard to external and internal corrosion issues.
  • Provide corrosion related technical guidance and input to senior management during incident investigations.
  • Maintain a current working knowledge of regulatory and company operating requirements.
  • Coordinate, prepare, and maintain various reports, records, and other documents concerning the Integrity Management Program.
  • Provide stewardship of pipeline integrity federal, state, and public regulatory compliance records. Represent KMPP Pipeline Integrity organization during regulatory audits.
  • Manage the internal audit of pipeline integrity records originating from various organizations and provide detailed results to senior leadership.
  • Consistently maintain and demonstrate a high regard for the environment, personal safety, safety of company assets, employees, and the general public
  • Establishes and maintains professional relationships with local and regional NACE (National Association of Corrosion Engineers) organizations.
  • Attend industry conferences and participate in industry counsels to support company awareness of the latest corrosion related technology.
  • Estimated 40% travel
  • Job level will be determined based on experience and industry knowledge.


Position Requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelors degree or higher in Engineering, Science or related field from an accredited school or relevant work experience that has developed equivalent engineering and corrosion skills.
  • NACE International Corrosion Specialist or Cathodic Protection Specialist (CP-4) certification is required.
  • Coating Inspector Level 3.


Experience/Specific Knowledge:

  • A minimum of 10 years of working experience/knowledge in the writing and implementation of Pipeline Integrity Management Programs.
  • A minimum of 10 years leading a corrosion team and program.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of pipeline integrity codes and regulations in the US and Canada to include 49 CFR 195, 16 TAC 8.101, and Canadian CFR Z662.
  • Experience providing corporate representation during US Federal, State and Canadian Pipeline Integrity Program audits.
  • Design, construction, and troubleshooting of corrosion monitoring and cathodic protection systems.
  • Corrosion instrumentation.
  • Protective coating used on petroleum pipelines

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:

  • NACE International Corrosion Specialist or Cathodic Protection Specialist (CP-4) certification.
  • A satisfactory driving record as determined by the Company and a current, valid State driver's license are required.
  • If the employee is subject to license or certification requirements or training as stipulated by local, state or federal agencies or the Company, now or in the future, compliance is required under this job description.
  • Must be able to obtain and hold a valid TWIC Card.

  • Proficiency with computer applications, including Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and CPDM (Cathodic Protection Data Manager).

  • Organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks are essential.
  • Must be a problem solver with the ability to find resolutions.
  • Must be self-motivated and capable of working with minimal supervision and/or direction.
  • Must be flexible and able to work effectively in a team environment and consistently maintain a professional and respectful demeanor/attitude with co-workers, clients, vendors, and regulatory agencies.
