Fiberglass Tech/Boat Detailed/Cleaner/Marine Finish/Painter

RMK Merrill-Stevens is a full-service shipyard dedicated to the refit and repair of the world’s finest yachts and vessels. Work is of the highest international standards and meets Classification Societies requirements, including ABS, Lloyds, and US Coast Guard Regulations.

RMK Merrill-Stevens is searching for Fiberglass Tech! This role performs Fiberglass and gelcoat experienced in all aspects of composite repairs, paint and gelcoat. Mold making, lamination, lay-up, one-off parts manufacturing, and general fiberglass repairs. Repairs range from cosmetic blemishes to major fiberglass damage.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Identify defects, such as: cracks, blisters, stress fractures, and cosmetic flaws
  • Estimate repair times, plan for materials, and coordinate jobs with facility manager
  • Grind out defective areas, smooth rough edges/areas by using appropriate power or hand-tools
  • Prep fiberglass, resins, and damaged areas for repair
  • Shape and smooth edges to match contour properly
  • Mix Gel coat catalyst and spray or brush repaired surfaces, matching colors as well
  • Buff and polish repaired surfaces
  • Follow safety protocols and maintain professional work environment

Qualifications:

  • Understand marine composite materials and repair.
  • Previous experience using Awl grip and Gelcoat products.
  • Able to stand for long periods of time
  • Provide own tools.
  • Ability to read and write English is necessary.

Marine Finish/Painter

RMK Merrill-Stevens is searching for Marine Finish/Painter! This role performs marine yacht painter to oversee and develop a team capable of all aspects of yacht painting. Scheduling jobs, ordering, and estimating of materials, ability to manage a team and develop new hires into a team capable of delivering yacht projects on time and within budget. Responsibilities and Duties

Essential Functions and Major Responsibilities:

  • Must have a through working knowledge of marine coating application and surface preparation for various surfaces; various types of spray painting machines and equipment used in coating application.
  • Preparing the surface (by sanding, blasting, cleaning, etc.)
  • Removing old coatings using chemicals
  • Applying primers and finish coats
  • Estimating the quantity and type of coating needed, and the required amount of labor for each task.
  • Ability to read and write English is necessary.

· Yacht quality and experience is necessary and previous project list helpful

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

Work is conducted outdoors frequently exposed to prevailing weather conditions. Work indoor or aboard vessel which may have fumes, chemicals, and heat as well as noise and dust present depending upon the location of work. Other exposures may be exposed to vibrations, smoke, acids, degreasing cleaners, fumes dust, solvents, oil, grease, and confined spaces.

Safety equipment required. Requires clothing with no holes, eye protection, and respirator and hearing protection, and may require wearing a hard hat and/or welder's helmet. The individual must be able to frequently climb inclined stairways and vertical. While in work areas the person will be exposed to all weather conditions, noise, dusts, and odors. Work aboard the vessels can be strenuous and sometimes hazardous. Dynamic, fast-paced outdoor setting with moderate to loud noise levels from production activity in the shipyard. Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time. Must be flexible to work varying schedules and hours as needed. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

High School diploma or GED equivalent / technical/vocational training. SSPC C-12 Certified with a minimum of 2 years shipboard experience with various marine coatings, required to be at journeyman painter level of competence beyond high school or on the job training in the shipboard industry

  • Boat Yard: 2 years

English/Spanish

Boat Detailer/Cleaner

RMK Merrill-Stevens is searching for a reliable Boat Detailer. Candidate must have experience in washing and detailing yachts greater than 50 feet.

Responsibilities include:

  • Meticulous cleaning and polishing interior and exterior of luxury yachts.
  • Ready boats for delivery to the new owner.
  • Assist with the setup of boat shows and other off-site events.
  • Assist with cleaning and maintenance of the dealership to ensure a professional work environment conducive to selling.

Detailer / Boat Washer Skills needed:

  • Knowledge of proper products for safe detailing of vessels properly including but not limited to cleaners for various surfaces, degreasers, and waxes.
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
