Blistering of Intumescent Fireproofing

An architectural firm designed an addition to a medical facility that included exposed steel members with an intumescent fireproofing coating. Over the ensuing summer, coating failure in the form of blisters in the topcoat and intumescent system were observed. A coatings consultant was hired to investigate the problems, and the findings are discussed in this article....
