Twenty-five years ago, an icebreaker coating primarily designed for the underwater hulls of ships was installed in the Canadian oil patch on the floors of many 150-foot-diameter aboveground storage tanks owned and operated by Enbridge, a Calgary, Alberta-based oil storage company and distributor of over three million barrels of crude oil a day.
