Do sspc-sp1 followed with sspc-sp7, re clean with sspc-sp1 prior to coating.

"On preparing galvanized steel for overcoating" First question should be, has the galvanizing been passivated? The American Galvanizers Association offers the following explanation of what is commonly referred to as Passivated Galvanized Steel: that it is generally chromate quenched, it is temporary, and is intended to reduce wet storage stains. The American Galvanizers Association recommends against painting passivated galvanized steel. ASTM D 6386 Standard Practice for Painting Hot-Dipped specifically recommends against painting a chromate quenched surface. ASTM A653 and D 2092 also clearly recommend against ordering passivated galvanized steel if it is to be painted. As a general rule, the paint industry recommends against painting over passivators. Prior to painting the galvanizing, you need to find out if it has been passivated.
