The color we have at our workplace are shades of sage green - which, based on this article, encourage us to concentrate more effectively.

Thank you Allen for a detailed, well thought-out article. Color in schools is so important, and actually not unlike color in the workplace, in a way. I thought the statistic about boring colors raising absenteeism was interesting, as it is parallel to boring colors in the workplace contributing to absenteeism through health issues as well as promoting a lower level of productivity and employee satisfaction. One of the many details that caught my eye was that of "Walls with windows that receive direct sunlight should be painted a lighter shade to equalize sunlight glare." I'd have thought that actually walls opposite direct light (large windows) might be better done in a deeper shade to minimize the glare. In any case, great article. For my accreditation through the IACC my thesis was on the subject of color in schools, also. It's a subject near and dear to my own heart and interest in supportive color design.

I agree with Barbara. this was a very well-thought out article. I to am interested in purposeful color planning for schools. It is un uphill struggle to convince schools that color is not a bad thing. However, paint color is usually the last priority when school budgets are already operating on bare bones budgets. I look forward to a time when schools treat color as a significant component to the education of our children. well done!
