Case History: Tank Coating Makes Water Slides Look Slick

Fiberglass slides at the Rapids Water Park in West Palm Beach, FL, are looking their best, thanks to a self-priming epoxy tank coating that offers good abrasion and color fading resistance, according to Bob Nichols, owner of the painting company that has serviced the water park for 17 years. Originally, the 28-year- old slides had been coated with a gel coat (the generic type of which is not known), but the Florida sun and the elements had taken their toll, fading and cracking the coating. The contractor tried other coatings, including a system comprised of an epoxy tank lining applied as a primer under two coats of a urethane. This system lasted only one year before the slides’ appearance once again became a problem, he says....
