The authors report on the first part of a study on the use of UHP waterjetting for secondary surface preparation in new vessel construction. They focus on the influence of cleaning parameters such as flow pressure or type of
waterjetting tools on surface cleanliness, roughness, and holding primer. The results are compared with a traditional grit-blasted surface.
