Safety at the Nano Level

The risks of nanomaterials are not fully understood, but studies indicate that at least some are biologically active, may penetrate human skin, and have produced toxicologic reactions. To help minimize the risk, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health has issued General Safe Practices for Working with Engineered Nanomaterials in Research Laboratories, which makes recommendations on engineering controls and safe practices for people working with these materials in labs and pilot-scale operations.
