Why is it necessary to remove grease from a metallic surface before you clean it by abrasive blasting?

Grease interferes with the scouring action of abrasive blasting.
Grease makes the surface too slippery for blast cleaning.
It isn't necessary because blast cleaning, itself, removes grease.
