From Kumar Kolur Vadivelu of Sadara Chemical Company on November 10, 2014:
An inspection window may serve to determiine the integrity of the coating under insulation in certain cases.

From Francis Goss of Rienecker Projektmanagement on October 2, 2014:
I agree with Regina. A visual inspection, when accessible, is the best choice. Clients complain about down time and costs. So I ask them, how much down time will you have when a pipe under pressure explodes and destroys half of your system? How much will it cost to repair it all? How much is a worker's life worth? Removing loads of insulation and restoring it may be costly now. But it will be cheaper in the long run.

From Regina Montgomery of Thordon Bearings Inc. on September 29, 2014:
I’ve looked into this topic extensively and have read much about using embedded sensors, eddy current, or thermal wave imaging (to inspect thick coatings not easily accessed in the marine industry) and have found that no one method remotely comes close to what is achieved with a visual inspection. I would love to hear others weigh in on this question.
