From Lee Edelman of CW Technical on September 28, 2011:
What? Do you mean a blasted surface? Are they shims of a known thickness?

From Lee Edelman of CW Technical on September 28, 2011:
For Type 1 gages, you should take a BMR and subtract that value from the coating thickness reading. Type 2 gages can be calibrated on known reference standards. I would not calibrate my Type 1 or 2 gage in the magnetic field. There are other choices for DFT readings such as ultra sound.

From subramaniam anna durai of doosan heavy industries on September 28, 2011:
We  use  plastic shims to calibrate a dft gauge on a coated surface.
