Public Unions are not the problem. They are only scapegoats for the politicians and fund managers who have been sucking resources away from the states for the last thirty years, to line their own pockets.

Public unions are a problem in that they get paid significantly higher wages than non-union and the benefit packages are far too large and the cost in most cases is not equitably shared by the individual. This really sticks it to the taxpayer, who often is not making as much as they are. One large problem could be solved just by making the union members responsible to pay their own dues. It is called personal responsibility and would greatly reduce accounting cost to the state or county or city.

I don't believe they should be disbanded, yet modification of contracts is a necessity in this fiscal climate. Teachers and other workers should be able to be dismissed upon the findings of poor work performance. We need equilibrium.

Unions public sector or not is not the problem. Our politicians that increase their worth by millions each year and misuse the tax and social security monies are the problem along with people from all over the world that come here and start benefiting from a system that they never paid into. If it weren't for unions there wouldn't of been a middle class and that is who people like the tea party are going after so there will be more money for themselves. Greed is killing our country, not a livable wage with benefits.

I agree there is a broad spectrum of greed, but in all honesty, there are plenty of union members across the board that are being protected who don't perform. I want a living wage for people, yet, people also have to produce.
