The fact is the government does not need to be shut down if the debt ceiling is not increased. There is adequate cash flow to pay our debts and keep the government operating. It would only be necessary to cut out excess spending, cut waste and stop redundant programs. It is time government learned to live within its means, just like the rest of us do.

"the president..." really? Democrat AND republican legislators got us into this mess, and all of us with our hand out happily taking the candy. All of us have to fix it. Obama inherited this problem he did not create it. Compromise is the nature of government. People on both sides of the aisle MUST realize that more taxes may be necessary (are you listening republicans?) AND sacred cow entitlements will have to get slashed (are you listening democrats?)
