PRODUCTS & TECHNOLOGY: Whey-Based Clear Wood Finish

PolyWhey Whey Based Clear Wood Finish

Vermont Natural Coatings (Hardwick, VT) introduced PolyWhey Exterior Wood Finish, a new addition to the company’s line of natural clear wood finishes. The product combines a low VOC level of 95 grams per liter with a tough, transparent coating film that is durable, waterproof, and nontoxic, the company says. The product will be available in retail outlets nationwide, beginning this month.

The product employs the company’s whey-based technology, and has been successfully tested in “very challenging environments,” says Andrew Meyer, Vermont Natural Coatings president. The company’s products have been developed using whey proteins, a natural byproduct of the dairy industry.

The product is reported to create a waterproof barrier and provide protection against mildew, mold, and UV radiation. Other product characteristics are neutral odor, a high degree of coverage, and easy cleanup.
