Fed up with the capital's crumbling roads, a group of Moscow activists has mounted a spray-paint attack on city potholes, hoping to gain action from local officials.

Members of the Angry Citizens, or Serdity Grazhdanin, movement took to the streets over the weekend, armed with cans of spray paint.

Members of the Angry Citizens movement in Moscow spray-painted over 100 potholes in the city and plan to send photos of them to the city's transportation agency.

Around 50 activists took part in an event called "Color Potholes" on Friday (March 29) night and Saturday (March 30) morning. The activists covered more than 100 potholes in Moscow's roads and spray painted them, said Anastasia Borisevich, a spokeswoman for the movement, The Moscow News reported.

"The action went very well," Borisevich told RIA Novosti. "The participants found more than 100 potholes. Everybody observed traffic regulations and wore vests."

Pothole Pictures Sent

Pictures with the potholes' locations will be sent to Dorogi Moskvy (Moscow Roads), the government portal created to facilitate improvements in the city's transportation system.

Dorogi Moskvy's staff are supposed to oversee roadwork and repairs by relevant organizations.

The transportation agency, Dorogi Moskvy, said it currently accepts complaints and questions from users of the Angry Citizens' website.

Since October 2012, Dorogi Moskvy's website has been accepting complaints and suggestions from its own registered users and users of the Angry Citizens' website, the government agency said. In December, it started accepting inquiries from another activist website, RosYama.

"This means that people who lodge complaints with the Serdity Grazhdanin and RosYama websites can be sure that their complaints will be forwarded to Moscow's geo-information websites and will shortly be addressed by authorities," the website said.

According to RIA Novosti, about 30,000 people die each year in Russia from traffic accidents that are usually attributed to poor road conditions and traffic violations.

There is not enough spray paint in Boston...

Comment from Richard Hogue, (4/5/2013, 8:25 AM)

That wouldn't work in the US. The activists would be arrested for vandalism and felony destruction of public property. Then government officials would ban the sale of spray paint.

We are turning into Russia and Russia is turning into US.
