Work Bids Invited for State Park Play

Wednesday, March 27, 2013

Michigan park officials are inviting proposals by April 3 to clean and stain a wooden playscape at a state park in Bay City, along the shores of Saginaw Bay.

The wooden playscape, used by hundreds of children, is located east of the spray park, part of more than 2,000 acres of land that make up the state park.

Scope of Work

The wood surfaces of the playground will be coated with a sheer sealer, to slow down the checking, cracking and other effects of the aging process.

The Bay City playscape is a favorite part of the state park along Saginaw Bay.

Before sealing the wood, the structures will be lightly power-washed and allowed to dry completely. The seal will be applied by use of spray gun. A paint brush will be used to ensure that all end grain is appropriately sealed.

The sealant should not be applied if there is a chance of precipitation or if the temperature drops below 40 °F. The ideal temperature to apply the sealant is between 50°F and 95°F. About 30-40 gallons of sealer will be required.

A building at the site will also be power-washed and painted.

Work will take place on weekdays from April 29 through May 16, 2013.

The playscape will be closed for 24 hours after application of the sealer. The contractor will notify the park manager of the project schedule to allow enough time to notify the public of the closure.

The playscape will be closed during the project in May.

In addition to the children’s play areas, the park offers places camping, picnicking, and biking and is home to migratory birds and wetland wildlife.
