Technical guidance on coatings for chemical and petrochemical plants and offshore platforms are the focus of two new, free eBooks published by JPCL: Journal of Protective Coatings & Linings.

Sourcing and Selecting Coatings for Chemical and Petrochemical Plants and Offshore Platform Coatings: Selecting and Sourcing combine sourcing information for coating systems with technical expertise on selecting systems for oil and gas pipelines, exterior exposures in chemical plants, and the newbuilding stage of offshore platforms.

The new titles are part of a free series that features industry-specific coating selection and specifying advice. The series was developed in conjunction with the latest JPCL Coatings & Linings Buying Guide.

The eBooks are now available as a free download exclusively through PaintSquare, the online home of JPCL.

Chemical and Petrochemical Plants

Sourcing and Selecting Coatings for Chemical and Petrochemical Plants consists of a feature on preventing pipeline corrosion and a JPCL Problem Solving Forum on minimizing coating systems for exterior exposures.

"A Strategy for Preventing Corrosion Under Insulation on Pipelines in the Petrochemical Industry" reviews a strategy to provide long-term and reliable prevention of CUI, which can reduce maintenance and inspection costs. The article is by Brian J. Fitzgerald, ExxonMobil Chemical Company, and Dr. Stefan Winnik, ExxonMobil Chemical Ltd.

"Minimizing Coating Systems for Exterior Exposures in Chemical Plants," a JPCL Problem Solving Forum, asked industry experts: "If you want to minimize the types of coating systems used for atmospheric service in a chemical plant, what would be the best system to cover most exposures?"

Detailed responses are included from Mark Weston, Incospec & Associates, and Wim Bonestroo, Rotterdam Painting Consultants.

The chemical/petrochemical coating eBook includes "A Strategy for Preventing Corrosion Under Insulation on Pipelines in the Petrochemical Industry."

Coatings for Offshore Platform

Offshore Platform Coatings: Selecting and Sourcing features "Inorganic vs. Organic Zinc Primers for Offshore Platforms: An End User's Point of View," by Massimo Cornago, a consultant formerly with ENI Exploration & Production, SpA, Italy.

The article describes one oil company's approach to selecting paint systems for corrosion protection of offshore platform structures above the splash zone. The feature focuses on the initial choice between primers at the newbuilding stage.

Both volumes also include JPCL Buying Guide material on selecting and specifying marine coatings for various exposure environments. The buying guides are organized by exposure type, substrate type, coating manufacturers and their preferred systems.

Hempel is the sponsor for both of the eBooks.

Coating Selection Series

Sourcing and Selecting Coatings for Chemical and Petrochemical Plants and Offshore Platform Coatings: Selecting and Sourcing are the eighth and ninth volumes in the exclusive series by JPCL, the “Voice of SSPC” and the leading journal of the protective and marine coatings industry.
