CA Admin Building Seeks Bids for Roof

Wednesday, March 20, 2013

Comment | More

San Joaquin County, CA, is seeking bids to replace the roof of the Canlis Administration Building in Stockton with a spray-applied polyurethane foam system.

Scope of Work

The contract includes cleaning and replacing the roof with a zero-ozone-depleting, two-component, spray polyurethane foam (SPF) and protective coatings.

The foam will have a tensile strength of 90 psi when cured. It must not have any plasticizers or migrating fire retardants.

SPF may not be applied when winds exceed 15 mph or if there is a risk of precipitation.

San Joaquin County is seeking bids to replace the roof of its Canlis Administration Building with a spray-applied polyurethane foam.

If weather conditions are temperamental, the SPF layer will have to be inspected after 48 hours for evidence of degradation or contamination. An inspection will also be required if the foam layer sits uncoated for 48 hours or longer.

A protective coating will be applied over the SPF on the same day, as long as the foam layer has cured.

The first coat will be applied using a crosshatching spray technique, with the second coat applied perpendicular to the first. Aesthetics are vital to the project; coatings that are visible and the presence of granule pass lines are unacceptable.

The first-floor entryway and penthouse roofs will also receive a new foam stop metal edge.

Pre-Bid Meeting

A mandatory pre-bid conference will be held March 25. The project should begin in April or May.

Before beginning work, the contractor must prepare a 200-square-foot sample area to ensure that the work meets quality-control standards.
